Two Approaches to E-Commerce Software Development

Two Approaches to E-Commerce Software Development

Article by TarunKumar

E-commerce software development is exactly what its name says. The creation and application of software programs aimed at allowing a company or a person to trade goods and services over the Internet.

As you would expect, e-commerce software development varies from the simple to the incredibly complex. And it all depends on your needs and your budget.

For example, if you are an individual who sells products or services only to people around your area, your e-commerce software development will be very simple. You’ll probably end up with a very simple website that’s cheap to maintain. You may even get a free blog.

For people who are not much into computers, there won’t be a way to make payments online, but rather, there will be a Paypal address. Visitors will have to go to Paypal’s site in order to make a payment, and you won’t get notified by your site that a payment was made. Rather, you will receive an e-mail or a phone call telling you that a payment was made and then you will ship or deliver the products.

Such a simple e-commerce software development won’t appear on any search engines, of if it does, it will be so low ranked to be noticed by anyone. There won’t be any online promotion of any kind and the people will know your site only if you give them the address.

On the other hand, if you are a company director or a sales manager that ships products to several countries, your budget and the complexity of your e-commerce software development will be considerably higher. Your site will be more expensive to maintain, and will usually end up in “com.” The design will be complex and will match the image that you want your company to project.

There will be a classification of your products in different categories, which will allow visitors to look for and find a specific product in an easy and smooth way. You will have an integrated way of payment on your site, including Visa, Mastercard, Paypal, and maybe one or two more options.

Your customers will be able to create an account on your site that will offer them some benefits. This will also allow you to create a customer list that you can use for later promotions.

There will be an intense Internet marketing campaign, with several tools that will attract new potential clients.

Of course, the prices of these two approaches will be completely different, but that just shows you the two extreme approaches you can have when trading online.
